AIGA Design Directory Scraper

Scrape designer profiles from the AIGA Design Directory by name, discipline, or location. Each profile returns the designer's bio, skills, contact info, and portfolio links. No API key required. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.

The AIGA Design Directory is a curated list of professional designers, but browsing it manually or vetting candidates one by one is slow. This Actor reads the public directory, searches by keyword, and returns structured profiles so you can build a shortlist in minutes instead of hours.

Who uses it What they scrape AIGA Design Directory for
Recruiters and hiring managers Build a pipeline of designers by discipline and city for open roles.
Agency business developers Find freelance designers or small studios in a target market for partnerships.
Event organizers Discover speakers or workshop leaders by searching for specific design expertise.
Design tool companies Identify potential beta users or case-study candidates from the professional community.

What it does

This Actor collects AIGA designer profiles matching an optional keyword and returns each one as a flat row with bio, skills, location, and contact details.

  • ๐Ÿ” Keyword search: filter the directory by designer name, discipline, or city before scraping.
  • ๐Ÿ“Š Structured output: every profile lands as a consistent row with bio, skills, and contact fields.
  • โš™๏ธ Volume control: set a maximum number of designers to collect, from a single preview up to a full directory pull.

Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.

What you can do with AIGA Design Directory data

๐ŸŽฏ Build a candidate shortlist.

A recruiter searches for 'UX designer' in 'Chicago', sets maxItems to 200, and exports a CSV of qualified profiles to screen.

๐ŸŒ Map a local design market.

An agency owner pulls all designers in 'Austin' to understand the competitive landscape and spot collaboration opportunities.

๐Ÿ“ฌ Source newsletter or event guests.

A community manager scrapes profiles by 'motion design' and uses the contact data to invite speakers for a virtual summit.

Use with AI agents (MCP)

Give an AI agent live access to AIGA Design Directory through the Model Context Protocol. Add the Actor to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client:

claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=parseforge/aiga-design-directory-scraper"

Then prompt it in plain language to run the scraper and read back the results.

Troubleshooting

Why am I getting no results?

Your keyword may be too narrow or misspelled. Try a shorter, more general term, or leave the query field empty to scrape the unfiltered directory.

The run stopped before reaching my maxItems.

The Actor stops when there are no more matching profiles. If you expected more, broaden your keyword or remove it entirely.

Some profiles look incomplete.

The Actor can only extract what the designer chose to make public on their AIGA profile. Missing fields mean the information was not provided on the site.

I got a timeout or the run failed.

The AIGA site may have been slow. Retry the run. If it persists, lower maxItems to reduce the load or contact support with the run log.

FAQ

Question Answer
Do I need an AIGA membership or login to scrape? No. The Actor reads the public-facing directory pages, so no membership, login, or API key is required.
What exactly does a profile row contain? Each row includes the designer's name, bio, stated skills and disciplines, location, and any publicly listed contact or portfolio links the directory shows.
Can I scrape the entire directory? You can set maxItems up to 1,000,000, which covers the full directory. The Actor will stop when it hits your limit or runs out of matching profiles.
How do I search for a specific designer? Type their name into the 'Name or keyword' input field. The Actor will return profiles that match that text.
Can I filter by multiple disciplines at once? The directory's keyword search matches across name, discipline, and city fields. For multiple disciplines, run the Actor once per term and merge the datasets.
What output formats are supported? You can export your results to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML directly from the Apify dataset.
Is it legal to scrape the AIGA Design Directory? The Actor only accesses publicly available profile pages. You should review AIGA's terms of service and comply with applicable laws for your use case.
How long does a run take? It depends on your maxItems setting and the number of matches. A few dozen profiles finish in seconds; a full directory pull takes longer but runs unattended.
Can I schedule this Actor to run weekly? Yes. Use Apify's scheduler to run it on a recurring basis and track new designers who join the directory.
What if my keyword returns no results? The run will complete with an empty dataset. Try a broader term, a different city, or leave the keyword blank to pull the default directory listing.
